PEACE OF THE ACTION – GENERAL ORGANIZATION

1. What is Peace of the Action?
POTA is a loose coalition of peace activists who have become tired of performing “symbolic actions” and are committed to performing nonviolent acts of assertive resistance. POTA will be establishing it’s worldwide headquarters in Washington, DC beginning March 2010 in coordination with it’s initial major event known as “Camp OUT NOW” (of which more information can be found in the next FAQ section below.)

2. Who is behind Peace of the Action?
US Peace Activist, Cindy Sheehan, has been formulating POTA’s initial large action (Camp OUT NOW) since her 2005 camp (Camp Casey) in front of George Bush’s ranch in Crawford Texas. Joshua Smith (of Dallas, TX) Peace Activist, is co-founder. List of all staff and volunteers will soon be posted on the ABOUT page within this site.

3. Does Peace of the Action have local chapters?
The POTA Local Chapters Program will be initiated at some point around the beginning of Summer 2010. The POTA Local Chapters information packet is currently being created. If you are interested please check back soon. Also, upon formation, Chapters will be given an online store ‘coupon code’ for a period of 14 days so that all initial members can outfit themselves at a discount.

4. What is the mailing address for Peace of the Action?
Washington, DC mailing address will be listed here during the first week of February.

5. What organizations are part of the Peace of the Action Coalition?
Although we work with most all anti-war/peace/humanitarian groups our closest partnerships are with the following organizations: World Can’t Wait, Veterans for Peace, After Downing Street, ANSWER, Voters for Peace and Gold Star Families for Peace.

6. Does Peace of the Action endorse any current politicians, upcoming political candidates or party affiliations?
No—we feel the solution comes outside of federal, party politics and POTA is completely neutral on politicians, but we will be focusing on legislation that we consider relevant.

7. How does a person volunteer with Peace of the Action?
The official POTA Volunteer Program will be initiated at some point around the beginning of Summer 2010 and open to DC area college students.

8. Does Peace of the Action have a full-time College Intern Program?
The official POTA College Intern Program will be initiated at some point around the beginning of Summer 2010 and open to DC area college students.

9. How is the public made aware of upcoming Peace of the Action events?
Weekly E-blasts (electronic e-mail newsletters) will begin service mid-February 2010. Registration information for automated delivery via e-mail to come soon. Interactive calendar will also be available on this site at relatively the same time. (Of course information on events can also be found by simply viewing our latest news posts and new archives.)

10. What issues, campaigns and causes are Peace of the Action currently engaged in?
Along with the full completion of this website a section will be devoted to issues, campaigns and causes beginning mid-February 2010.

17. Is there a hard copy order form for Peace of the Action store items and one that I can submit along with a written check via ’snail mail’?
Yes. The hard copy order form will be available the first week of February 2010 and will be found as a PDF download on the TOOLS page within this website.

18. If Peace of the Action were a tree what kind of tree would it be?
Amongst our staff and volunteers we have a wide range of answers for this question ranging from Weeping Willow to Great Oak to Aspen.

19. Does Peace of the action have a regular newsletter?

20. Did I hear that Peace of the Action has or will be having an Internet radio show?
Beginning Summer 2010 Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox web site and weekly radio show will be fully incorporated into the Peace of the Action’s web site and overall operations. The Soapbox will become one of a handful of talk shows on the Peace of the Action (24/7) streaming Internet radio program that will be known as Air Amerika. Music ranging from DC local area bands to national and world-wide sources will be heavily incorporated.

22. Is their an online downloadable archive with both low-res and high-res photos that may be used by the media? Full operation for online service request for this will be initiated soon and most likely via our FLICKR web site account.

23. Where can I get electronic copies of the Peace of the Action logo?
Downloadable electronical files of the POTA logo (in various file formats) can be found and downloaded at our TOOLS
page within this site.

24. What is the meaning of the Peace of the Action logo?
The POTA logo symbolizes the dove’s (a universal symbol of peace) body being put upon a gear. This is primarily reflects a combination of our efforts in combination with the spirit behind a specific segment of a Mario Savio speech (see top of any POTA web page for quote reference.) PEACE OF THE ACTION – ‘CAMP OUT NOW’ ACTION/EVENT

1. Where are we meeting at?
The Washington Monument in Washington DC.

2. When are we meeting?
Peace of the Action will be setting up Camp Out Now on the lawn of the Washington Monument beginning March 13th and this new peace camp will be the launching pad for daily direct actions against the seat of our government; A government that is involved in so many wars, invasions, bombings and other foreign violence that it is hard to keep track.

3. What are your demands?
As Cindy says in her original post about POTA, “All troops and para-military mercenaries, are ordered out of Iraq and Afghanistan, the drone bombings in the tribal regions of Af-Pak are discontinued and we get about the business of healing, reconciliation and REPARATIONS.”

4. Is it legal to post a tent near the Washington Monument? Do we have a permit to be there?
It is legal to set up tents with no spikes/stakes. Our permit application applies to the first week of the event.

5. Will a “bail fund” be established?
We will try to establish a fund. However, we recommend that you bring several $100 with you in the event that you are arrested, and want to pay your bail. We are hoping that you don’t pay your bail so as to “clog up the system.”

6. Will food, beverages, and easily accessible bathrooms be available?
We are going to make every effort to do so. We are also planning on helping the homeless in Washington D.C.

7. What kind of actions are you planning on participating in? Have you committed the action to non-violence?
The actions would be spread around Washington D.C. We are hoping that multiple groups would participate in random actions simultaneously around the city. Yes, we are non-violent.

8. What should we bring as far as clothing, etc… is concerned?
We guesstimate you will need about 3-4 days worth of clothing. We are going to try and find locations for different laundromats in the area that we can use. Eventually, they will be posted on this page.

9. Is there any coordination for ride sharing or car pooling?
Yes. we have a forum group established on the FORUMS page within this website. This is for activists to coordinate amongst themselves in arranging transportation. Please see CAMP page for any possible accommodations that may be need if you are not going to be active and staying at the CAMP OUT NOW site.

10. How is Peace of the Action coordinating with the ANSWER Coalition’s March 20th ‘MARCH ON WASHINGTON’?
POTA will be gathering at the grounds of the Washington Monument (at the Camp OUT NOW event site) and then marching together as a group to the MARCH ON WASHINGTON event. Gathering begins early morning. For more information regarding the MARCH ON WASHINGTON please visit here.
